In Naran, a popular tourist area in Balakot, two glaciers burst in a catastrophic turn of events, crushing several hotels and houses under their weight. This event caused potential financial losses in the tens of millions of rupees.
The Kaghan Development Authority quickly called an emergency meeting to discuss the problem and set up a special team to determine how much damage had been caused. According to reports from Naran, yesterday’s eruption of the Ghamla and Chapran glaciers on Lake Road caused avalanches that buried several businesses.
However, several avalanches that have blocked roads have made access to Naran extremely difficult, preventing government agencies from trying to offer a complete damage estimate. Muhammad Shabbir Khan, Director General of Kaghan Development Authority chaired the emergency meeting and formed a team to assess the damage immediately.
The committee’s responsibilities include assisting in the re-opening of Naran Road and presenting its proposals to the board. Once the road is cleared, swift action will be taken to support affected Lake Road property owners in their recovery. Several hotels were damaged due to a glacier that hit the road around Naran Lake yesterday.
Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) Director General Shabir Khan said that various places on the Naran road are closed due to the arrival of the glacier. He said this at an extraordinary meeting of the KDA. Naran Bazar was reported to be completely safe and there was no loss of life, but about eight hotels on Lake Road were badly damaged.
