Pakistan Navy launches GHAZI, fourth Hangor-class submarine in China

Rawalpindi: The Pakistan Navy has launched GHAZI, the fourth Hangor-class submarine, at the Shuangliu Base in Wuhan, China, according to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Progress on Hangor-class submarine programme

With the launch of GHAZI, all four Hangor-class submarines being constructed in China are now undergoing sea trials and are in the final stages before delivery to Pakistan, the statement said.

Pakistan–China submarine acquisition agreement

Pakistan signed an agreement with China for the acquisition of eight Hangor-class submarines. Under the contract, four submarines are being built in China, while the remaining four are to be constructed in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW) under a transfer-of-technology arrangement.

Capabilities of Hangor-class submarines

According to ISPR, the Hangor-class submarines are equipped with advanced weapons and sensor systems designed to engage targets at extended ranges.

Attendance at the launching ceremony

The launching ceremony was attended by senior officials from Pakistan and China, reflecting ongoing cooperation between the two countries in defence-related projects.
