GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan Environmental Protection Agency (GB-EPA) held a meeting of the Environmental Assessment Advisory Committee (EAAC) on October 1, 2026, to review the Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) report for a proposed 3.3-megawatt solar power project in Sost, Gojal, Hunza.
The meeting was held at the office of NPak in Hunza and was chaired by the Deputy Director, Gilgit Division. Representatives of the Forest Department, Wildlife Department, Agriculture Department, Fisheries Department Hunza, Planning and Development Department, NPak and the project’s consultant attended the meeting.
During the session, the IEE consultant presented the environmental assessment report for detailed consideration by the committee members.
The committee reviewed the report and identified key environmental and social concerns associated with the proposed project. Members also developed recommendations for addressing the issues identified during the assessment.
Following the meeting, a GB-EPA team visited the proposed project site along with representatives of the contractor and project proponent.
The site visit provided an opportunity to examine environmental aspects of the proposed project on the ground and assess issues related to the project site and its potential environmental impacts.
The review reflects the role of environmental assessment in identifying potential risks and ensuring that development projects, including renewable energy initiatives, take environmental and social considerations into account during planning and implementation.
