Funeral arrangements for King Charles III have been delayed since he died of cancer last month. The New Zealand Herald reports that funeral planning has begun a day after the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth in 2022.
“Everyone remains optimistic, but it’s not good,” a longtime royal friend told the publication.
King Charles III’s aides always referred to the official operational plan as “Operation Menai Bridge”. The multi-hundred-page document was drawn up on September 8, 2022, the day after Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
According to the Daily Beast, there have been frequent updates on the operation of the Menai Bridge since King Charles’ health deteriorated. Each member of the monarchy has funerals named after a special bridge and updated regularly. The plan for the Queen’s funeral was called “Operation London Bridge”.
“This is not an emotion, this is a case, it is being taken seriously and there are no arrest plans,” the aide told local media.
This February, King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer. Last month, after Easter at Windsor Castle, he was seen mingling with the audience and applauding.
The King performed his official duties, including meetings with the Prime Minister and submitting official documents. However, her appearance at traditional royal events such as Easter is thought to be the start of plans to return to society.
After his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, Charles has a difficult task: to prove that the 1,000-year-old monarchy is still relevant in a modern country with visitors from all over the world. The king is seeking to reassert himself in public after less than two years in power as he works to convince young people and members of marginalized communities that the royal family can speak for them.
As the king tries to limit contact to reduce the risk of infection while he receives treatment, the palace goes to great lengths to keep him in the spotlight.
