The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Monday issued a wave advisory, predicting a rise in daytime temperatures in several parts of the country from May 21 to 27.
Residents are urged to take precautionary measures to protect themselves from the expected heat.
According to the PMD, daytime temperatures are expected to rise by 4°C to 6°C in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan and Balochistan during this period.
The temperature in Sindh and Punjab will be between 4°C and 6°C between May 21 and May 23 and will increase to 6°C to 8°C between May 23 and May 27.
The synoptic situation shows that a continental climate exists in most of the country and contributes to the rise in temperature. Central and southern regions are expected to be hot and dry on Tuesday.
In view of this situation, PMD advised the public to avoid unnecessary exposure to sunlight and use water wisely.
The unusually hot and dry conditions have increased the risk of wildfires and forest fires, particularly in vulnerable areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Balochistan.
During the last 24 hours, hot and dry weather prevailed in most of the country, especially in the southern and central parts. However, isolated rain storms were reported over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan.
