Real Madrid have officially announced that Kylian Mbappe will be unveiled as their new player at the Santiago-Bernabeu Stadium next Tuesday.
The news came less than 24 hours after the former Paris Saint-Germain star and the French national team were knocked out of Euro 2024 by Spain in the semi-finals.
Mbappe, who will wear the number 9 shirt, will be unveiled at the Bernabeu at midday (1000 GMT) on Tuesday. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez will oversee the signing of Mbappe’s five-year deal, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
The France captain has had a tough Euro 2024, starting with a broken nose in the opening match against Austria. Despite his efforts, he missed a late chance to equalize in France’s 2-1 defeat by Spain on Tuesday.
Mbappe is expected to play his first competitive game for the Spanish and European champions when they face off on the weekend of 17/18. August will start the defense of La Liga against Real Mallorca. His first appearance at the Bernabeu is scheduled for a week later when Madrid host newly promoted Real Valladolid.
After joining Real Madrid as a free agent, Mbappe’s annual salary is said to be 15 million euros ($16.2 million), with additional bonuses totaling over 100 million euros.
