A fire broke out in a plane of a foreign airline at Peshawar airport on Thursday.
According to aviation sources, the fire broke out in the landing gear of Saudi Air flight SV-792 from Riyadh during landing at Peshawar airport. The flight controller informed the authorities about the fire.
The incident triggered emergency protocols as the 276 passengers and 21 crew were quickly evacuated using emergency chutes.
After landing, fire crews intervened promptly and managed to put out the flames that engulfed the aircraft. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties among passengers or crew members. Some slightly injured passengers were given first aid.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation by airport authorities and aviation experts. Initial reports indicate that the fire broke out when the plane was landing at the airport.
The incident caused temporary disruption at the Peshawar airport.
Following the incident, the airport was declared closed for 24 hours due to the presence of the aircraft on the airport’s taxiway. According to the Notice to Airmen (Notam), the runway closure will last from 10:35 today until the same time tomorrow. All flights to Peshawar airport will be diverted to alternate airports.
