The flu virus in the US has reached its peak this winter, breaking a 15-year record, according to recent data.
The severity of the flu is determined by the number of patients visiting hospitals and clinics due to flu-related symptoms.
According to data posted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), last week’s flu cases were significantly higher than any winter flu season since 2009-2010.
While other viral infections like COVID-19 and RSV can sometimes be mistaken for the flu, COVID-19 cases are declining globally, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is also fading.
The flu outbreak has forced schools to close in some US states.
Overall, flu-related viral infections were reported as high or very high in 43 states last week, with the virus most severely affecting southern, southwestern, and western states.
