Suspected terrorists killed at least five Iranian security personnel and wounded 10 others in two separate attacks on military facilities in southeastern Iran, official media reported Thursday.
According to reports, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard headquarters in Rask and Chabahar in Sistan-Baluchistan province were attacked overnight by Jaish al-Adl militants.
The official IRNA news agency reported that two policemen, a security guard, a soldier and a volunteer from the Basij volunteer force were among the dead.
At least eight militants were killed in gun battles with security forces, according to media reports.
On Thursday morning, Iran’s Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Police Affairs, Majid Mirahmadi, said that simultaneous terrorist attacks in Rask and Chabahar were stopped with the help of law enforcement and security personnel.
He also said that the terrorists who attacked the IRGC headquarters in Chabahar were defeated and were hiding in a nearby building.
Mirahmadi said that Chabahar residents were abducted by terrorists and a careful operation was conducted to rescue the hostages.
In early January, Iran targeted two bases of Jaish al-Adl, a Baluch group in Pakistan.
Other media reports claimed that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards had carried out “ballistic missile attacks” at various locations along the Iran-Pakistan border. The open-source intelligence watchdog said the Revolutionary Guards carried out attacks with ballistic missiles and “unilateral drone strikes” against “anti-Iranian terrorist groups”.
