Islamabad: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman has halted the implementation of a proposal to restrict travelers from bringing more than one mobile phone into Pakistan.
According to Geo News, the FBR chairman has directed the withdrawal of proposed amendments to the Customs Baggage Rules 2006 and has immediately stopped enforcing the restriction on bringing more than one mobile phone.
Sources confirm that under the current 2006 rules, travelers from abroad are still allowed to bring two mobile phones.
Additionally, the FBR chairman has instructed the retraction of the proposal to ban commercial items valued over $1,200. He has further directed the proposed amendments to be reviewed and resubmitted after consultation.
What Did Yesterday’s Notification Say?
On Monday, the FBR issued a notification regarding amendments to the baggage scheme. It included a decision to impose a complete ban on bringing commercial quantities of goods from abroad and limited personal use to only one mobile phone.
