During the session, Mr Mumtaz delivered a detailed presentation on the basics of taxation and outlined major reforms introduced under the FBR Transformation Plan, approved by the Prime Minister of Pakistan. The presentation covered key initiatives such as Point of Sale (POS) integration, the Track and Trace System, digital invoicing, faceless customs, the Direct Port Delivery System, reward and rating mechanisms, and the use of video analytics for production monitoring. These measures, currently implemented in sectors such as sugar and cement and being extended to textiles, were highlighted as contributing to improved compliance, transparency and expansion of the tax base.
Final-year students, many of whom are engaged in freelancing or preparing to enter professional life, raised questions regarding the taxation of freelance income. The FBR team addressed these queries in detail, followed by an interactive question-and-answer session that provided further clarity on tax facilitation and compliance procedures.
The seminar concluded with the exchange of souvenirs and giveaways as a token of appreciation and collaboration. The event reaffirmed FBR’s commitment to ongoing engagement with academic institutions and its resolve to develop a transparent, efficient and facilitative tax system in the country.
