Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli – known for his flamboyant batting style and childhood friendship with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar – is once again in the limelight after a video surfaced on social media.
The authenticity and timing of the video remain unverified, but the footage clearly shows Kambli in a disoriented state, struggling to keep his balance until passers-by step in to help him off the road.
This incident once again highlighted Kambli’s long-term health problems.
Kambli’s health problems are not new. In 2013, he suffered a heart attack while driving in Mumbai, which required immediate medical attention. In the previous year, he underwent angioplasty for two blocked arteries. These health complications have plagued him ever since he retired from professional cricket.
There are also growing calls for Sachin Tendulkar, Kambli’s childhood friend, to step in and offer support.
Kambli and Tendulkar’s friendship is well documented and both shared many memorable moments on and off the cricket field. However, their relationship hit a rough patch when Kambli publicly accused Tendulkar of not supporting him during tough times. Despite this, the two later reconciled and their friendship remains a cherished part of cricketing lore.
Vinod Kambli’s cricket career, though not as famous as Tendulkar’s, was marked by notable achievements. He has played over 100 One Day Internationals (ODIs) and 17 Test matches for India, amassing nearly 10,000 runs in first-class cricket and nearly 6,500 runs in List A cricket.
His highest score in these formats was 262 and 149 not out.
