Last year, Pakistan witnessed a watershed moment when Erica Robin was crowned as the first ever Miss Universe Pakistan.
The news caused a stir on social media, drawing mixed reactions and raising eyebrows over the bold move.
Belonging to Karachi’s vibrant Christian community, Erica has made history by representing Pakistan on the global stage, breaking stereotypes and opening doors for those who yearn to transcend societal norms.
In a stunning display of cultural pride, Erica chose to wear a burkini instead of traditional western ceremonial attire, capturing the nation’s hearts.
I know my culture very well and I chose clothes that I thought were appropriate for our society. As a Christian, I respect the moral values that my country stands for. This is a year of acceptance and it is heartening to see people gradually understand and celebrate Noor’s achievements.”
In an exclusive interview with Geo Digital, both Erica and Noor share their experiences and aspirations.
But there were also many people who supported me along the way, excited to represent Pakistan globally for the first time ever,” reflects Erica.
From Islamabad to the World Stage: Noor’s Journey
“I was very nervous and scared, especially after what happened last year,” Noor admitted.
“But what Erica did was really brave. She wore a sophisticated burkini and walked with confidence, representing Pakistan with grace. I feel lucky to have her as a mentor; she has taught me so much about so many things and has been incredibly supportive. Don’t hesitate to call her at 2 a.m. whenever I needed advice because she welcomed my questions and concerns,” she said.
