LAHORE, Aug. 6: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab sealed an illegal polythene bag manufacturing unit on Bund Road, Lahore, after its Anti-Plastic Squad encountered resistance from the factory owners and their associates during an enforcement operation.
According to EPA officials, the inspection targeted a facility allegedly involved in the production of prohibited polythene shopping bags in violation of Punjab’s anti-plastic regulations. During the operation, the inspection team faced obstruction and resistance from individuals present at the factory.
To maintain law and order, the Punjab Police was called to the scene. Following the intervention, an FIR was registered against those involved, the manufacturing unit was sealed, and 227 kilograms of banned polythene bags were confiscated.
The EPA reiterated its commitment to strict enforcement of the provincial ban on single-use plastic bags, stating that operations against illegal manufacturers and distributors will continue across Punjab.
Officials urged businesses and manufacturers to comply with environmental regulations, warning that violations of anti-plastic laws would result in legal action as part of ongoing efforts to reduce plastic pollution and protect public health and the environment.
