EPA Punjab Inspects 264 Locations in Crackdown on Banned Single-Use Plastics

LAHORE: The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA Punjab) has intensified enforcement against banned single-use plastic, inspecting 264 locations, issuing 40 notices and sealing four premises during a crackdown on violations.

According to the enforcement figures shared by the agency, officials seized 1,368 kilograms of plastic and imposed fines totalling Rs60,000 as part of efforts to curb the manufacturing, sale and use of prohibited plastic products.

The agency has reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against the manufacturing, sale and use of plastic products with a thickness of less than 75 microns, which are prohibited under the applicable restrictions.

The enforcement drive aims to improve compliance with plastic regulations and reduce the environmental impact of single-use plastic waste. Improperly discarded plastic can pollute streets, drains and waterways, damage ecosystems and contribute to long-term environmental contamination.

EPA Punjab has urged citizens and businesses to comply with the restrictions and report violations to the environmental helpline 1373.

The agency’s campaign highlights the importance of sustained enforcement, responsible business practices and public cooperation in reducing plastic pollution across Punjab.
