LAHORE: The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has intensified enforcement against industrial units suspected of violating environmental laws, inspecting 233 units across the province during the past 24 hours.
According to the agency’s latest action report, enforcement teams issued one general notice and 17 smog-related notices as part of efforts to curb pollution and address activities contributing to deteriorating air quality.
The report also confirmed that two units were demolished and 12 were sealed during the enforcement drive. In addition, four First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered against alleged violators.
The agency imposed fines totalling Rs1 million (Rs10 lakh) during the 24-hour period, signalling continued action against industrial activities that breach environmental regulations.
The crackdown comes as air pollution and smog remain major environmental concerns in Punjab, particularly during periods when weather conditions can trap pollutants close to the ground. Industrial emissions are among the sources that environmental authorities monitor to help improve air quality and protect public health.
Effective enforcement, regular inspections and compliance with pollution-control requirements are important for reducing harmful emissions. Industrial operators are expected to follow applicable environmental laws and take corrective measures where violations are identified.
The EPA Punjab has urged the public to report suspected environmental violations through its helpline 1373, enabling authorities to receive complaints and take appropriate action.
The agency reiterated that strict action would continue against industrial units found violating environmental laws across Punjab.
