MULTAN: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Multan has intensified action against the use and sale of single-use plastic bags below 75 microns as part of efforts to reduce plastic pollution.
An EPA team conducted an inspection drive across markets and shops in the city, checking compliance with the ban on polythene bags below the permitted thickness.
During the operation, shopkeepers and traders were also sensitised about the environmental impact of thin plastic bags and the restrictions on their use and sale.
The EPA team confiscated a total of 361 kilograms of banned plastic during the inspection drive. The seized material was taken into custody according to standard operating procedures.
The department said such enforcement activities would continue to discourage the use of prohibited plastic bags and promote a cleaner environment.
Reducing single-use plastic can help limit litter, protect waterways and ecosystems, and reduce the amount of plastic waste entering the environment.
