SKARDU, September 29, 2026: The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Baltistan Region, held a public hearing at the Central Imambargah in Nazimabad Kowardu to assess the potential environmental impacts of the proposed Kowardu LPG Storage and Filling Plant Project.
The hearing was organised following public demand raised during an earlier public hearing and aimed to provide local residents and other stakeholders an opportunity to present their concerns and recommendations regarding the proposed project.
A large number of stakeholders from different segments of the community attended the hearing. Participants submitted their concerns, observations and recommendations in writing for consideration as part of the environmental assessment process.
During the proceedings, community representatives presented their demands before the project proponents. The proponents agreed to incorporate the genuine demands of the local community into the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report.
Participants appreciated the EPA Baltistan for providing a platform for an inclusive and transparent consultation process.
The EPA reiterated that public consultation and participation are important components of the environmental approval process. The agency assured participants that the views, concerns and written submissions received during the hearing would be incorporated into the final EIA Report.
The consultation highlights the importance of involving local communities in decisions concerning projects that may affect their environment, safety and natural resources.
