After Lahore Reshit Mahmood and Nisho Begum, electricity also shocked popular actress and film director Sangeeta. According to the actress, she received a note of Rs 60,000, Rs 20,000 for electricity and Rs 40,000 as tax. Comedy star Gaffar Lehri was also upset over the high cost.
The details show that electricity shocked the artistic community as much as ordinary citizens. President’s Award-winning actor Rashid Mahmood was the first to speak against the bill. Seeing a note worth more than 45,000 rupees, he prayed to God to die.
Nisho Begum also received a one million rupee note which disturbed her. Popular film actress and director Sangeeta went berserk after receiving an electricity bill of Rs 60,000. Sangeeta, the film’s director, said that she used only one air conditioner and the other air conditioner was not installed. However, he was given a 60,000 rupee note.
The actress pleaded, “For God’s sake, may the electricity authority have mercy on us. How can an air conditioner generate a charge of Rs 60,000? How much more do we have to tax? Electricity costs Rs 20,000 and the remaining Rs 40,000 is tax.”
Famous comedian Ghaffar Lehri also said that he suffered after being electrocuted. He said he lives in a small rented house and only uses a fan. The highest bill was supposed to be 3000 rupees, but he had a record of 20,000 rupees. He visited the concerned LESCO office for repairs but was told that the bill should be paid as it is.
He said: “Sending such fees to artists is like killing them. We hardly have any shows and we do not get work for six months at a time. We ask the authorities where we will get money to pay such high fees?”
