Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s 19-member federal cabinet has been allocated official vehicles. According to government sources, each cabinet member has been given a 1,800 cc vehicle as per his entitlement, a move aimed at facilitating the operations of the federal cabinet. The allocation of official vehicles was coordinated by the Cabinet Department, which oversaw the distribution of vehicles to the relevant ministries of all ministers.
Sources said the central cabinet carpool now boasts around 100 official vehicles, ensuring seamless mobility of cabinet members in the discharge of their official duties. The provision of official vehicles to members of the government is a standard practice aimed at facilitating their mobility and enabling them to effectively carry out their official duties.
As Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s cabinet settles into its roles, the allocation of official vehicles reflects a proactive approach to governance and administration. On 11 March, President Asif Ali Zardari swore in a 19-member federal cabinet. The oath-taking ceremony was held at the President’s House, which was also attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, among others. According to sources familiar with the matter, the prime minister has recommended the appointment of 19 persons as federal ministers under Article 92(1) of the Constitution.
Among those sworn in as federal ministers are Attaullah Tarar, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Jam Kamal, Ameer Muqam, Awais Laghari, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Tanveer, Abdul Aleem Khan, Azam Nazir Tarar, Chaudhry Q Salik Hussain, and Riaz Pirzada. Additionally, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahad Cheema and Mohsin Naqvi were also sworn in and appointed as Ministers of State with the status of Federal Ministers.
They also took the oath of Dr. Musadik Malik and former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar who do not hold any seat in either House of Parliament. They were appointed by federal ministers under Article 92(1) of the Constitution read with Article 91(9). PML-N’s Shaza Fatima Khawaja was also inducted into the cabinet as Minister of State for IT and Telecom. It is significant that no legislator from the PPP is part of this initial cabinet composition.
