KARACHI: Caretaker Federal Minister for National Health Services Dr. Nadeem Jan said on Tuesday that a drug application has been launched to ensure availability of drugs.
He said his ministry had taken measures to ensure registration of sugar, blood pressure and life-saving drugs on an emergency basis.
During his visit to the Karachi Drug Testing Laboratory here, the Minister said that he has laid the foundation stone of extensive reforms in the Health Ministry in a short span of time.
Dr. Nadeem Jan said his priority is to keep the cost of medicines within the reach of the common man.
He said the caretaker government would not allow the sale of substandard drugs and hoarding of drugs.
The minister said that coordinated steps have been taken to make the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) public friendly.
A facility for testing medical equipment is now available in the laboratory, he said, adding that the registration and licensing system at DRAP has been digitized.
He said coordinated measures have been ensured to promote merit and transparency.
Dr. Jan stated that effective measures have been taken to ensure the supply of quality medicines. He said that in a short period of time, major reforms have been introduced to Drap.
“I am happy that the laboratory has developed on modern lines,” he said, adding that the purpose of the visit to the laboratory was to review the functioning of the laboratory.
He said that practical measures have been ensured to eliminate fake and unregistered medicines.
He further stated that complete practical measures are being taken to increase exports.
Earlier, Director General Drap briefed the minister about the functions of the drug testing laboratory.
