Hours before Republicans hold a caucus in Iowa to choose their November 2024 presidential nominee, Donald Trump said Monday that it would be a “tremendous night” for him because he did not attend the GOP debates.
During a brief interview with reporters as he left a Fort Des Moines hotel, Donald Trump said, “We’ve won it twice, you know, two elections, and I think we’re going to have a great night tonight.”
Republicans are holding their first convention amid freezing temperatures in Iowa that dipped below minus 20, forcing the party’s candidates to cancel their campaign events.
The 77-year-old praised his supporters for turning up at his rallies. In this regard, he said, “The people are fantastic, and I have never seen a spirit like them, as far as the country is concerned, but in Iowa.”
On the other hand, GOP presidential candidates have expressed fear of low voter turnout in extreme cold weather.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Monday that the extreme cold could have an impact on voter turnout, but he also urged people to attend GOP caucuses to fight for them “for the next eight years.”

North Dakota Governor and former 2024 presidential candidate Doug Burgum endorsed Trump on Sunday. Florida Senator Marco Rubio, whom the former president defeated in 2016, also endorsed the business magnate.
According to polls, Trump has 48% support in the conservative, religious state, while DeSantis has slipped to third place with 16% support. However, Haley moved into second place – cashing in on the lackluster DeSantis campaign – 20%.
