In a move that has sent shockwaves through the medical community, the Punjab Health Department has significantly increased the entrance test fee for postgraduate medical programmes.
Aspiring doctors will now have to pay a hefty Rs 10,000 to appear for the MS and MD entrance exams, a 66% hike from the previous fee of Rs 6,000.
The fee hike notification was issued after approval at an inter-university meeting. Under the new guidelines, King Edward Medical University will administer admission tests for various programmes.
The substantial fee increase comes at a time when inflation is already weighing on many families. Doctors have expressed their concerns, calling the fee hike “cruel” given the current economic woes.
