Bollywood’s newest international icon, Deepika Padukone, hit the BAFTA 2024 red carpet in a stunning Sabyasachi sequined number. The renowned actor chose a dazzling saree for the night that propelled her to Vogue’s best dressed stars for the night.
Padukone, who also hosted one of the awards on the big night, paired her look with Sabyasachi diamond dangle earrings. In terms of makeup, she played it safe with classic brown eyes and nude lips. Her hair was carefully styled into a messy bun.
Padukone presented director Jonathan Glazer with the award for Best Film not in English for The Zone Of Interest.
Oppenheimer sweeps the BAFTAs
Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s epic about the creation of the atomic bomb, made the rounds at Sunday’s BAFTA Film Awards in London, making a serious statement ahead of next month’s Oscars.
The film won a total of seven awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr.
In the film, Murphy plays J. Robert Oppenheimer, an American theoretical physicist often called the “Father of the Atomic Bomb” who was haunted by the aftermath of his creation. The film has grossed more than $1 billion, won Golden Globes and critics’ awards, and is now a clear front-runner for Oscar glory.
It was Murphy’s first BAFTA award, and when accepting the award at the ceremony at London’s Royal Festival Hall, he thanked Nolan for “seeing something in me that I probably didn’t see myself”. He later told reporters that the success was “overwhelming”, adding that he was “excited and a bit shocked”.
Despite numerous commercial successes such as Inception and The Dark Knight, Nolan has never before won a BAFTA for Best Director. It was Downey Jr.’s second BAFTA Award. He won the best actor gong for his portrayal of Charlie Chaplin 31 years ago.
While accepting the award, the American star joked that Nolan had advised he tried an understated approach to the role of Lewis Strauss, a member of the US Atomic Energy Commission, to restore “my declining credibility”.
