LAHORE: The Accountability Court of Lahore, while postponing the decision of the Ashiana Iqbal reference of 660 million against former Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other accused, remarked that confusion has arisen after the order of the Supreme Court.
The court declared that it is better if we get an explanation from a forum.
Accountability Court Lahore Judge Malik Ali Zulqarnain heard the case. The court was scheduled to pronounce its verdict on the Ashiana Iqbal reference on November 7 after the arguments were completed.
The court remarked that confusion has arisen after the order of the Supreme Court.
The court stayed the decision of Ashiana Iqbal pending the interpretation of the Supreme Court’s decision and clarified that the Ashiana Iqbal reference was kept for decision today, but the media reports have seen that the Supreme Court has stopped the decision.
The counsel for the accused argued that the Supreme Court’s order affects the cases which were acquitted after the amendment.
The court convinced us that it is better if we get an explanation from a forum. The lawyers were of the opinion that it is clearly written in the Supreme Court decision that it has no effect on merit petitions.
