A couple narrowly escaped being struck by falling boulders during a dramatic landslide near Bridal Veil Falls in Provo Canyon, Utah, after a section of the mountainside suddenly collapsed.
According to Public News, Bailey and Emerson Hamilton were travelling through Provo Canyon on Friday when they witnessed a large section of rock breaking away from the mountainside. The couple recorded the frightening incident on camera.
Couple Runs to Safety as Rocks Fall
The couple, who have lived near the canyon for around 10 years, said the area is often busy with hikers and pedestrians, particularly on Fridays.
Concerned that someone might have been caught in the falling rocks, they stopped their vehicle near Nunns Park and headed towards the walking trail to check whether anyone needed assistance.
However, they soon heard another landslide and immediately ran towards a safer area, narrowly avoiding the falling rocks.
No Injuries Reported
According to the report, Utah County officials inspected the area and confirmed that no injuries or fatalities had been reported following the incident.
The landslide prompted authorities to close the affected hiking trail earlier than planned. The route, which was scheduled to close at the start of winter, is expected to remain closed throughout the season, with cleanup work planned for spring.
Authorities Take Precautionary Measures
The incident highlights the potential dangers of sudden rockfalls in mountainous areas, where unstable terrain can pose serious risks to motorists, hikers and nearby residents.
Authorities have closed the trail as a precaution while the area remains affected by the landslide.
