COMSATS University Islamabad (CUI) hosted a delegation of two members from CERN at the Islamabad campus. Among the participants was Dr. Luciano Musa, ALICE (Large Ion Collider Experiment) CERN project leader, along with senior researcher Dr. Luca Malgeri. They were attended by Dr. Zafar Inasin, Director, CERN Secretariat, Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) and Dr. Altaf Ur Rahman, Director. CERN, Switzerland.
Since joining ALICE in 2008 and becoming a full member in 2012, COMSATS University of Islamabad has been reported to be integral in the advancement of scientific research in collaboration with CERN. In order to restore and expand this cooperation, the university management has recently established a special CERN liaison group. Leading this initiative, Dr. Tahir Naeem, Director of Planning, Development and Human Resource Development (P, D and HRD), CUI has been appointed as Focal Person to manage all joint efforts and future programs with CERN.
Dr. Hammad Omar, International Head of CUI, Dr. Muhammad Anis-ur-Rehman, Senior Professor, Department of Physics, CUI, Uzma Tabassam, Associate Professor, Department of Physics, and Rubina Bhatti, Additional Director (P,D & HRD) were part of the team liaison CUI CERN.
What was discussed included a variety of subjects other than Physics to expand collaboration in seven CUI universities, including faculty allowances, research collaboration and financial support for visiting students, joint projects and PhD supervision, as well as plans for interdisciplinary collaboration.
