MULTAN: Community organisations have been formed in several water-vulnerable areas of Multan to support local ownership and sustainable management of upcoming water filtration plants.
The initiative is being implemented by FDO under the Restoring Social Services and Climate Resilience (RSS&CR) project, supported by the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund.
Representative Community Organizations (COs) have been democratically formed across water-vulnerable Union Councils of Tehsil Multan, including Matti Tal, Qadir Pur Rawan, Basti Nao, Jakhar Pur, Thathi Laal and Ambala.
The village-level organisations will play a key role in the operation and long-term management of the planned water filtration plants. The initiative aims to place water infrastructure under the stewardship of trained local representatives, helping communities take greater responsibility for maintaining the facilities.
According to the project, community-led management is expected to strengthen accountability, support regular maintenance and help ensure continued access to safe drinking water.
The initiative also links improved water services with climate resilience, as vulnerable communities can face greater pressure on water resources during climate-related shocks.
By involving local communities in decision-making and management, the project aims to create a sustainable model for delivering and maintaining essential water services at the grassroots level.
