GWADAR: Heavy rainfall has severed vital connectivity and communication lines in many parts of Gwadar, deputy city commissioner (DC) Aurangzeb Badini announced in the wee hours of Wednesday.
“We have found ourselves cut off from various areas of Gwadar due to incessant rains,” said the deputy commissioner.
According to the DC, all administrative departments of the city and surrounding regions have been alerted to the situation. Machinery and equipment were deployed to reduce flooding by diverting excess water from affected areas.
The situation remained bleak for the affected residents, although the authorities deployed on the spot tried to address the growing needs of the affected.
“If there is a need to relocate citizens to safer places, we are ready,” assured the deputy commissioner.

Authorities are also trying to estimate the extent of the damage. “At the moment we cannot quantify the damage caused to residential buildings,” admitted Badini.
Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Makran late on Tuesday reported that several houses in Gwadar have collapsed due to heavy rains.
He said nearly 40 people were rescued and relocated to safer regions. Tents, food and medical supplies were provided to displaced residents.
