The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) was sharply rebuked by the Delhi High Court, which described the hiring of a color-blind driver as “appalling” and a “serious dereliction of duty.”
This man drove a city bus through the crowded streets of Delhi for three years, from 2008 to 2011, raising worries about public safety since he was unable to discriminate between important traffic lights.
Visibly “disheartened” by the DTC’s “negligence,” Justice Chandra Dhari Singh questioned the driver’s appointment conditions and the company’s reliance on a “flawed” medical certificate from Guru Nanak Hospital. This was a far cry from the evaluation provided by its own medical department.
