Researchers have highlighted the positive effects of coffee and tea in reducing the risk of head and neck cancers. However, did you know that excessive consumption of these drinks can actually cause another type of cancer?
Millions of people worldwide consume tea or coffee daily, and these beverages can have a protective role against certain cancers. A new study published in the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Journal shows that these popular drinks reduce the risk of head and neck cancers, which account for 6% of all cancers globally.
The researchers analyzed data from 14 international studies, which included around 25,000 participants. The participants provided information about their daily, weekly, monthly, or yearly intake of coffee or tea, and the researchers analyzed their health outcomes.
The results showed that drinking more than four cups of coffee daily led to a 17% overall reduction in the risk of head and neck cancers. However, on the other hand, drinking more than one cup of tea daily increased the risk of laryngeal (voice box) cancer by up to 38%.
