Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur on Thursday noted the gruesome incident in which a tourist was brutally killed and then set on fire by a violent mob in Madyan area of Swat district.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage and concern in the region, with the CM ordering a thorough investigation by the authorities.
According to reports, residents of Madyan accused Sialkot-based tourists of speaking on Thursday, leading to a violent mob. The situation worsened when a group attacked the local police station where the tourist was seeking asylum and brutally killed him. His body was finally cremated.
Despite the efforts of the police to protect him, the victim was injured. Violent clashes left eight policemen injured as they tried to maintain order amid the chaos.
The Chief Minister of Gandapur immediately paid attention to the unfortunate incident and ordered the KP Inspector General of Police to conduct a thorough investigation. In a telephonic conversation with the IGP, the Chief Minister said the matter was urgent and called for immediate action to control the situation.
CM Gandapur expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of life and appealed for calm and urged the citizens not to take the law into their own hands. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the rule of law and ensuring justice for all parties involved.
Initial reports said the incident started when locals insulted the tourist, prompting police to intervene and try to protect him at the train station. However, the situation quickly deteriorated with mosque notices circulating in large numbers demanding the handover of tourists.
The group’s actions included throwing stones at the police station, breaching security, causing extensive damage to police houses and vehicles, and finally setting the police station on fire. Despite efforts to quell the violence, the situation worsened.
Authorities are now working hard to restore peace in the area and arrest those responsible for the violence. The incident was widely condemned and led to calls for justice from various quarters and the need for a concerted effort to prevent such incidents in the future.
