ISLAMABAD: A total of 1,490 workers are carrying out a round-the-clock cleaning and sterilization program of the Prophet’s Mosque, its courtyards, and its roof using the latest equipment, automated equipment, and eco-friendly cleaning and sterilization materials, as part of the operational plan implemented by the Saudi General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Prophet’s Mosque during Ramazan.
Washing and sterilization activities at the Prophet’s Mosque cover more than 1.378 million square meters of the mosque’s inner and outer courtyards and roofs. During these activities, workers perform cleaning and sterilization tasks, especially during the peak hours before Iftar and immediately after Maghrib prayer, to wash, sterilize, and disinfect indoor and outdoor floors and carpets in addition to regular cleaning of service facilities. A healthy and safe environment in the mosque, ensure its cleanliness, measure the air quality inside the mosque, monitor cooling, and prepare the mosque to accommodate worshipers during prayers.
Washing and sterilizing activities take place in the courtyards with the help of a robot controlled by artificial intelligence through the installation of a special panel connected to the screen of the robot, by which it recognizes the designated path to carry out the task of washing and mopping the floors in the courtyards, supported by a camera mounted on the device to explore the places, not obstruct the movement of pedestrians, and then return to the starting point after completing the cleaning work, which ranges from two to four hours during each round, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The post-iftar period sees the peak of cleaning and sterilization efforts throughout the Prophet’s Mosque, with field teams expected to complete more than 16,900 maintenance and service jobs.
