Islamabad: The Chinese Cultural Center in Pakistan and the Cultural Office of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Pakistan have launched a series of online activities to promote the tourism image of the Grand Canal to Pakistan and global audiences.
The season will include almost 100 events dedicated to the natural beauty of the world, cultural heritage, and community development of the ancient waterway system, which has been registered as a World Heritage Site.
These activities include photo exhibitions, video broadcasts, online interactive exhibitions, and a series of tourism guide videos. This promotional activity also includes the exhibition of promotional videos and photos of the Grand Canal in various municipalities and provinces of China, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Anhui, Shandong, and Henan.
On June 22, 2014, the 38th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee declared the Grand Canal as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, becoming the 46th World Heritage Site in China.
The official opening ceremony of the 2024 China Grand Canal Tourism Outbound Season was held on April 2, 2024, in Wuxi, China. .
In addition, the Department of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Jiangsu Provincial People’s Government, and the People’s Bank of China Jiangsu Branch issued eight new measures aimed at revitalizing domestic tourism. These measures address the concerns of international tourists, such as limited information on Jiangsu tourism, payment difficulties, reservations and language barriers in popular destinations, and tourism destinations that meet emerging demand.
The event, which marks its second edition since 2022, is a joint effort of the Network of International Cultural Relations Organizations (NICE), the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, and the Wuxi City Government.
