885 Pakistan agriculture experts return from China after advanced training

ISLAMABAD — A total of 885 Pakistani agricultural professionals have returned home after completing specialized training programmes in China, where they studied modern farming techniques and emerging agricultural technologies.

The trained experts will now serve as “master trainers” and are expected to share their knowledge with farmers, agricultural officers and other professionals across Pakistan to help strengthen the country’s agriculture sector.

The programme was carried out with the support of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) under the Prime Minister’s capacity-building initiative aimed at improving productivity and introducing modern practices in farming.

Officials said the participants received training at leading Chinese universities and research centres. The curriculum focused on areas such as artificial intelligence in agriculture, drone-based crop monitoring, improved seed production and advanced water management systems.

Expanding modern farming knowledge

The returning professionals are expected to play a key role in spreading modern agricultural knowledge by training farmers and agricultural extension workers in different regions of the country.

Authorities believe the initiative will help improve crop yields, promote efficient resource use and strengthen food security through the adoption of technology-driven farming methods.

Part of wider Pakistan-China cooperation

The training programme forms part of broader agricultural cooperation between Pakistan and China under the 2025–2029 China-Pakistan Action Plan for a Shared Future.

The cooperation framework includes collaboration in crop cultivation, animal husbandry, aquaculture, disease management, agricultural mechanization, seed development, drip irrigation and agro-processing.

Officials say the long-term goal of the programme is to train up to 1,000 young Pakistani agricultural professionals in China to support the modernization and sustainability of Pakistan’s farming sector.
