Despite Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s warning, the price of chicken has eased slightly in Lahore, falling by only Rs 6 to a new rate of Rs 599 per kilogram.
In the last one month, chicken prices have seen a significant increase of Rs 222 per kg, from Rs 377 on June 25 to the current price of Rs 599. Citizens have been vocal in their demands for a reduction in broiler chicken prices, which have been affected by the rising cost of poultry feed and petroleum products.
Multan
In Multan, the price of chicken rose dramatically during the week, climbing from Rs 450 to Rs 560 per kg. The increase is attributed to higher feed and fuel costs, making chicken increasingly unaffordable for the average consumer. Local residents are calling for measures to reduce the price of chicken as current rates strain household budgets.
Faisalabad
The situation is similar in Faisalabad, where the local administration tried to enforce the official price of chickens. Despite the chief minister’s warning, chicken prices saw only a small drop of Rs 5, with the market rate still at Rs 630 per kg compared to the official rate of Rs 600 per kg.
Sialkot
In Sialkot, chicken meat is sold at prices ranging from Rs680 to Rs. 700 per kg, which is significantly higher than the official rate of Rs 599 per kg. High prices have put chicken beyond the reach of many common people and calls are intensifying for the administration to take decisive action against price gouging by the chicken mafia.
