BUNER: Muslim Hands, in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), is constructing a check dam in District Buner under the CBT Livelihood and Resilience Building Project to help communities manage seasonal water flows and reduce the impacts of heavy rainfall.
The initiative is designed to strengthen local resilience by supporting safer water flow management, improving local connectivity and helping communities prepare for climate-related risks.
Community participation is a key part of the project, with local involvement supporting practical solutions tailored to the needs of vulnerable communities.
Check dams can help slow and manage surface water flows, reduce erosion and support the protection of land and local infrastructure during periods of heavy rainfall. Their effectiveness, however, depends on appropriate design, location and regular maintenance.
The project reflects the growing importance of community-based approaches to climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction in areas exposed to extreme weather.
Through climate action, livelihood support and community engagement, the initiative aims to contribute to safer communities and stronger resilience to future climate-related challenges in Buner.
