CHAKWAL: Local authorities have intensified joint measures to combat smog and air pollution, deploying drone surveillance from Chakwal Motorway to Neela Interchange to monitor incidents of crop residue burning.
The operation is being carried out by the Environmental Protection Department, Agriculture Department, Safe City authorities and the PARA Force on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Sarah Hayat.
According to officials, drone monitoring aims to identify the burning of agricultural residues at an early stage and help prevent violations. The initiative is intended to strengthen enforcement and improve the effectiveness of local anti-smog measures.
Authorities warned that burning crop residues contributes to air pollution and smog, while also potentially damaging soil fertility. They stressed the importance of preventing the practice and encouraging more environmentally responsible ways of managing agricultural waste.
The coordinated surveillance effort brings together environmental protection, agricultural monitoring and enforcement agencies to identify violations and support timely action.
As Pakistan continues to face seasonal air pollution challenges, preventing the open burning of crop residues remains an important measure for improving air quality and protecting agricultural land.
