Chairman PTI, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry could not be charged in the contempt of election commission case even today, none of the three could appear.
A four-member commission under the chairmanship of Member Sindh Nisar Durrani heard the cases of insulting the Election Commission and the Chief Election Commissioner. As none of Chairman PTI, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry failed to appear, the assistant counsel pleaded for adjournment of the case.
Commission head Nisar Durrani remarked that if there are security concerns, you can notify the hearing in the jail. Secretary Interior said that if you want to go to jail, you can notify.
Member Commission asked whether the law allows this. On which the Interior Secretary took the position of seeking opinion from the Ministry of Law.
When asked by the commission, Fawad Chaudhry’s lawyer said that Fawad Chaudhry is in judicial custody in Adiala Jail.
The Member Commission said that the Election Commission is a constitutional institution, it has its own rules, no law is applicable to the Election Commission except the Constitution and the Election Act.
The Election Commission adjourned the hearing of the cases till December 6.
