LAHORE: CBD Route 47 remained fully operational during heavy monsoon rainfall in Lahore, with no major water accumulation reported along the corridor, according to the Central Business District Punjab.
The Punjab capital received 78 millimetres of rain during the latest monsoon spell, while rainfall in the Airport area reached 263 millimetres, creating traffic and drainage problems in several parts of the city.
Despite the intense downpour, traffic continued to move smoothly on CBD Route 47, which remained accessible to commuters throughout the rainfall.
CBD Punjab attributed the route’s performance to its stormwater drainage system and climate-resilient engineering design. The drainage network was built to remove rainwater quickly and reduce the risk of waterlogging during severe weather.
The authority said its operations and maintenance teams remained on high alert and continuously monitored road conditions, drainage performance and traffic flow.
Field teams carried out regular inspections and responded to emerging issues to keep the route safe and operational.
CBD Punjab Chief Executive Officer Imran Amin said the route’s uninterrupted operation reflected the authority’s focus on resilient infrastructure, proactive planning and sustainable urban development.
“The uninterrupted operation of CBD Route 47 during heavy rainfall reflects CBD Punjab’s commitment to resilient infrastructure, proactive planning and sustainable urban development,” he said.
He added that the authority remained committed to delivering infrastructure capable of serving the public under challenging weather conditions.
CBD Punjab also said it continued to provide technical and operational support to the Water and Sanitation Agency and the Walton Cantonment Board during the monsoon season.
Although the Kalma Chowk Underpass and Walton Road have been handed over to the relevant agencies for operations and maintenance, CBD Punjab said it remained in coordination with both organizations to support drainage management, traffic movement and commuter safety.
The latest monsoon spell once again highlighted the importance of effective urban drainage systems in Lahore, where heavy rainfall frequently disrupts traffic and causes waterlogging on major roads.
CBD Route 47’s continued operation during the downpour is likely to be presented by the authority as a test of its engineering and drainage infrastructure under extreme weather conditions.
