Islamabad: Interim Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi on Sunday said the caretaker government had fulfilled its constitutional responsibility by holding free, fair and transparent elections in a peaceful manner.
The minister said in a television talk show on private media that the caretaker government has extended full support to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in holding the elections.
The results were proof of the transparency of the elections, he added.
When asked, Solangi said there is a procedure for handing over power under the constitution and law.
He said that the incumbent speakers will call a meeting of all the assemblies as soon as the official results of the general elections are handed over to the respective assemblies.

He added that the caretaker governments will be dissolved when the elected prime minister and presidents are sworn in.
Responding to questions about the suspension of mobile service on election day, the Ministry of Interior added that the lives of citizens are paramount to the state. There was a threat to citizens and election staffs, he said in response to another question. “It was important for us to make sure there were no barriers to people’s mobility.”
There were always disputes over the conduct of elections and the date of elections, he said, recalling such disputes at the time of the 2018 and 2013 elections.
