Canada imposes major restrictions on admission of foreign students

By announcing a two-year ban on the approval of new colleges accepting overseas students until February 2026, the Canadian province of British Columbia has taken a big step. This ruling attempts to allay worries about postsecondary education quality and shield foreign students from being taken advantage of by dubious organizations.

Many Indian students study in British Columbia, attending esteemed universities like the University of Victoria, Simon Fraser University, and the University of British Columbia. On the other hand, new actions taken by the provincial government suggest that the education sector is moving toward more stringent controls.

The province intends to tighten criteria for degrees and prerequisites needed for the labor market, as well as to impose minimum language score requirements at private educational institutions. These modifications demonstrate the government’s dedication to raising educational quality and defending the rights of overseas students.
