ISLAMABAD: The Federal Cabinet on Thursday approved the appointment of Syed Tariq Muhammad ul Hassan as the Executive Director of Pakistan Baitul Maal. The decision was taken on the recommendation of the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Security, according to a press release issued by the Prime Minister’s House Media Wing.
The cabinet meeting was chaired by caretaker prime minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar. On the recommendation of the Ministry of Commerce, the Cabinet has approved the transit/carriage of vehicle spare parts and new tires used by the Afghan Land Office under the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) from the port of Karachi to Kabul, Afghanistan. Cabinet was informed that such importation and its movement to Afghanistan is prohibited to prevent smuggling in the country, however, under the United Nations Development Programme, the said spare parts and tires will be used by the United Nations and not for commercial purposes.
On the recommendation of the Ministry of Defense Production, the Cabinet also approved the transfer of Officer Grade 20 Khan Nawaz from the Secretariat to the post of Finance Member, Heavy Industry, Taxila. The Cabinet, on the recommendation of the Finance Ministry, approved the exemption of JS Bank’s sponsoring shareholder Shabbir Ahmed Randiri from Part (IV)(1)14 of the Banking Companies Ordinance. Based on this waiver, Shabbir Ahmed will be able to exercise his voting rights in JS Bank Limited as a 7.06% sponsoring shareholder.
Further, the meeting approved the transfer of Irfan Qadir Bhatti, accused with dual citizenship, to the Kingdom of Norway on the recommendation of the Ministry of Interior. The cabinet was told that the Norwegian government had accused Irfan Qadir of being involved in terrorism. In this regard, Additional Deputy Commissioner Islamabad was appointed as the Investigating Officer who after investigation concluded that the accused was involved in terrorism and other illegal activities. According to this information, the federal cabinet approved the transfer of the accused to the Norwegian government.
Similarly, the Cabinet, on the recommendation of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, has allowed Pakistani television companies to pay foreign broadcasters for broadcasting rights of sporting events. The Cabinet agreed with the decisions taken at the meeting of the Federal Cabinet on Energy on 6 February 2024. In addition, it also approved the decisions of the Cabinet Committees on Legislative Affairs and Privatization held on 7 February 2024. The meeting also approved the decisions made by the Economic Coordinating Committee of the Cabinet on 7 February and February 14, 2024.
