Islamabad: A big scam of overbilling billions of rupees from electricity consumers has been revealed in the country.
According to the sources, the biggest scandal of its kind has come out in the name of over-billing in Pakistan, in which billions of rupees have been collected from consumers through over-billing despite the already expensive electricity.
In August, distribution companies collected billions of rupees more from electricity consumers. Nepra had decided to take notice and inquiry into the over-billing issue in August. According to Nepra sources, the inquiry report proved over-billing in August bills. Electricity distribution companies were involved in the over-billing of billions of rupees.
All the distribution companies took away the poor people through overbilling. According to Nepra sources, the highest overbilling occurred in Lesko and Haseko regions. Discos charged protected customers with non-protected bills and delayed reading was used for over-billing. Added protected users to non-protected by delaying reading.
According to sources, instead of the scheduled date, the reading was deliberately taken 3 to 4 days late. Apart from Lesco and Hesco, other discos also had overbilling. Non-protected users were also billed. Additional charges were also made by the Discos in the name of meter conversion.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority has decided to make public the report on over-billing of discos. Nepra will finalize the report and make it public.
It should be noted that Nepra had taken notice of the issue of over-billing by the discos in the month of September. Nepra had received complaints of over-billing from a large number of consumers. According to sources, the authority formed an inquiry committee on the matter, which has completed the report this week.
