ISLAMABAD: Residents of Gulberg Greens were alarmed on Thursday evening after a Bengal tiger and its two cubs were reportedly spotted in B Block, Street 15, prompting the housing society’s security management to increase surveillance and advise families to remain indoors.
The reported sighting was confirmed by Gulberg Greens security management and residents, while photographs and videos of the animals circulated widely in community groups. Security personnel urged residents, particularly children, to avoid going outside and immediately report any further sightings.
The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB), along with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and Islamabad district administration, subsequently conducted a search operation in the area. According to the IWMB, no evidence of the animals was found during the search, although monitoring of the area was to continue.
Residents were also advised not to approach or attempt to trace the animals themselves and to avoid gathering at locations where sightings were reported.
The reported presence of a tiger with two cubs generated particular concern because a mother tiger may become defensive if she perceives a threat to her young.
The incident has also raised questions among residents about how a potentially dangerous exotic animal could have reached a populated residential community.
Resident Syed Hasnain told APP that the incident highlighted concerns surrounding the keeping of dangerous and exotic animals in residential areas, stressing the need to protect both wildlife and residents.
Gulberg Greens security management engaged wildlife authorities to help assess the situation and determine whether the animals were actually present in the area.
The reported sighting also highlights the challenges posed when potentially dangerous wild animals are kept in or near densely populated communities. Proper regulation, responsible animal ownership and coordination between wildlife authorities and local administrations are essential to prevent risks to both people and animals.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm, avoid approaching any wildlife and immediately report credible sightings to the relevant authorities.
As monitoring continues, residents have been advised to follow official safety instructions and avoid taking independent action if the animals are spotted again.
