PTI Barrister Gohar on Wednesday expressed his displeasure with prevailing situation in country, describing it as “law of the jungle” under current regime.
Addressing the press outside the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar condemned the repressive tactics used by those in power and said the country was being relegated to an unjust regime reminiscent of a jungle where kings were oppressed with impunity.
Concerned about the lack of transparency in the proceedings, Mr Gohar said it was important for the public and the media to participate in the proceedings, especially to investigate what he considered to be “illegal proceedings”.
Underscoring the need for accountability, the recent case involving PTI’s founder has shown that due process is missing and unfair practices are rampant.
Gauhar’s lawyer accused the authorities of trying to limit media access to the trial, saying journalists were prevented from attending the trial.
He lamented the lack of transparency of the trial and noted the measures taken by the media, including the construction of barricades and heightened security measures, to hinder the media’s access to information.
Pointing to PTI’s ongoing legal battle, lawyers said the cases filed against the party were politically motivated and lacked substantial evidence. He expressed his displeasure at the delay in the trial and called for an urgent hearing to resolve his grievances.
