The Balochistan government has partnered with the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) to introduce a subsidised electric scooter scheme aimed at improving access to affordable and sustainable transportation for students, working women and the general public.
The initiative was formalised through the signing of a memorandum of understanding at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta. The ceremony was attended by Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, Provincial Minister Mir Sadiq Umrani, senior provincial officials and representatives of the National Bank of Pakistan.

Under the scheme, electric scooters will be provided on easy, subsidised instalments through NBP, with the objective of easing daily commuting challenges, reducing fuel costs and encouraging the adoption of clean energy transport solutions across the province.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti said the initiative reflects the provincial government’s commitment to citizen-focused development. He noted that access to safe and affordable transport is particularly important for students and working women, and that the scheme would help improve mobility while promoting dignity and independence.
He added that the promotion of electric vehicles would contribute to environmental protection by reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. The chief minister emphasised that such projects are part of a broader strategy to support inclusive growth and sustainable development in Balochistan.
Officials of the National Bank of Pakistan reaffirmed the bank’s support for initiatives that enhance financial inclusion and facilitate public access to modern, cost-effective transport options.
The provincial government said further welfare-oriented projects would be launched in collaboration with financial institutions to improve living standards and support long-term socio-economic progress.
