Pakistan cricket captain Babar Azam has wished local javelin star Arshad Nadeem all the best as he prepares for the final event at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Babar Azam uploaded a video message expressing his support for Arshad, who qualified for the javelin final on Tuesday with an impressive throw of 86.59 meters in his first attempt during the qualification round.
The remarkable feat raised Pakistan’s hopes of a first Olympic gold medal in 62 years. “I wish him the best of luck. I request everyone’s support and pray that he wins the final.
Buoyed by the encouragement, Arshad Nadeem expressed his determination to make Pakistan proud. “I want to make Pakistan proud at the Olympics. I am optimistic about doing well in the final,” said Arshad.
The final, which is scheduled to begin at 11:25 PM PST on Thursday, August 8, has garnered considerable attention, especially as India’s Neeraj Chopra also qualified with an impressive throw of 89.34 meters in his first attempt.
Arshad Nadeem’s journey to the final was nothing short of inspiring. He won a silver medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships and won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with a massive throw of 90.18 metres, becoming the first Pakistani athlete since 1962 to do so in athletics.
