A new career high for the pair of Indian stars after their emphatic win over England in the third Test in Rajkot.
A number of India’s best players during the recent third Test against England have been rewarded with big moves in the latest ICC Men’s Rankings.
Young shot-stopper Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his second double-century of his fledgling Test career during the Rajkot contest, moving up 14 places to 15th overall and a new career high in the updated Test batsman rankings.
There are now four Indian players in the top 15 Test batsmen, with Jaiswal joining Virat Kohli (seventh), Rohit Sharma (12th) and Rishabh Pant (14th) near the top as Kiwi veteran Kane Williamson continues to hold the lead .
Williamson extended his lead at the top (893 rating points) after his match-winning century in the second Test against South Africa in Hamilton, with England’s Ben Duckett (up 12 places to 13), Jaiswal, India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (up seven places to 34th) and South Africa’s David Bedingham (up 29 places to 50th) among those players to rise in the latest update of the batting rankings.
Meanwhile, Joe Root dropped to fifth position with 766 points after scoring 18 and 7 in the third Test against India.
As a result, Pakistan batsman Babar Azam moved up one place to fourth (768) in the ICC rankings for Test batsmen.
In the ICC Test batting rankings, Steve Smith is currently second with 818 points and Daryl Mitchell is third with 780 points.
