LAHORE: In a remarkable feat, former Pakistan national team captain Babar Azam made history by becoming the fastest player to reach 10,000 runs in the shortest format of the game.
Babar Azam reached this milestone in just 271 innings, breaking the previous record of West Indies’ Chris Gayle who reached the record in 285 innings.
Babar achieved the coveted record during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings. Babar, who captained the team, contributed 72 runs to Zalmi’s total, setting a target of 155 runs for the opposing team.
Babar’s record puts him ahead of cricketing giants including Chris Gayle and India legend Virat Kohli. He joined the much-coveted 10,000-club with the likes of Australian opener David Warner and fellow Pakistani Shoaib Malik.
Virat Kohli reached the milestone in 299 innings while Warner achieved it in 303 innings.
Shoaib Malik, meanwhile, became the first Pakistani to score 10,000 runs in T20s in October 2020.
